Dear Peter,

You have been my Adviser for some years now and as
you know, I have terminal cancer and am unlikely to see
2007.
I would like to offer some advice to your clients regarding
taking some simple health tests so that they may not
suffer the same fate as me. Please copy or print this letter
if you think it would be useful.
As a 50 year old, I never really imagined becoming terminally
ill. Now I realise that if I had taken some simple health
checks when I turned 50, five years ago, I may have
averted my present health problems.
My message is that no one is invincible. There are a wide
range of blood and other tests, which can detect the
presence of bowel, prostate and other cancers. I cannot
reverse my situation, but sincerely hope this warning
may save some future lives and the physical, mental and
emotional distress, which goes with it. I particularly think
that many men do not take sufficient precautionary steps
and seem to think it may be ‘unmanly’ to take care of
themselves.
Also, I want to thank you for your kindness over the past
few difficult years and especially how you have explained
my insurance covers to me and relieved the pressure of
having to deal with the doctors, the claims processes, the
insurance companies, the paperwork and especially with
the bank who I also had insurance with and which you
hadn’t even arranged.
To be honest, I did not realise the extent of protection you
had arranged for me although you explained everything
thoroughly at the time. I cannot tell you how important it
has been for me to be able to put my financial affairs in
order while still alive rather than having this as another
burden for my family to sort out. I certainly thank you for
ensuring that my life insurance included a terminal illness
condition so that my policy paid out immediately — this
has been a true God send.
You asked me in a recent survey, if you met my expectations
and I think I ticked the ‘met expectations’ box.
With the benefit of hindsight, I should have said that you
exceeded my expectations over and beyond what I could
reasonably expect.
Peter, please feel free to share this with your clients — I
hope it may help.
Thank you,
George Berzins
